Dogs perishes in Floral City house fire; firefighter receives minor injury

Citrus County Fire Rescue (CCFR)

Floral City, Florida - About 10:10 pm on Monday evening, Sept. 13, Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to a residence on E. Rabbit Lane in Floral City, due to the report of a fire. Deputies arrived on scene to find the single-story wooden home approximately 50% involved in fire.

All the occupants had safely evacuated themselves from the residence prior to the arrival of firefighters, with the exception of a dog, who died from conditions inside the home and was buried on the property by firefighters. According to a press release by CCFR, one firefighter sustained a minor injury, but no other injuries were reported.

The fire was under control at 10:34 pm, and the last unit cleared the scene at 2:56 am. The release stated that no power was connected to the residence, and the cause and origin of the fire is unknown. Damages were estimated at approximately $45,000. 

Firefighters from Floral City, Highlands, Hernando, Pine Ridge, Kensington, Connell Heights fire stations, along with as a Safety Captain and the Rehab Unit, responded to the scene.
