Dunnellon home destroyed by fire; residents uninjured, but two dogs found deceased

Dunnellon, Florida - On Sunday night, July 25, at 7:40 pm, Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to a residence located at 9370 N. Cedar Cove Rd. in Dunnellon, due to the report of a fire. Firefighters arrived to find a double wide mobile home approximately 50% involved in fire, with flames coming through the roof.
The residents had already evacuated the home without injury prior to the arrival of firefighters, but two dogs were found deceased inside the home. A vehicle parked in front of the garage was destroyed by the blaze, which appears to have started in a bedroom. At the time of the press release, it was not determined if the home had working smoke alarms.
The fire was deemed under control at 8:11 pm, and the last unit cleared the scene at 10:34. The home was determined a total loss with estimated damages of $68,000 to the property and $32,000 of its contents. The Red Cross was contacted to assist the displaced occupants.
Firefighters from Hernando, Citrus Springs, Pine Ridge, Connell Heights, and Highlands fire stations responded to the scene, along with the Rehab Unit from Citrus Springs Fire Station.
