Road crew ruptures gas line near Inverness apartment building; no injuries reported

Citrus County Fire Rescue (CCFR)

Inverness, Florida - Citrus County Fire Rescue and firefighters from the Inverness, Connell Heights, and Kensington firestations, along with the HazMat Unit from the Homosassa Firestation responded to a road construction incident, about 2:00 pm, Tuesday afternoon, June 20, that involved a ruptured gas line

Accordint to CCFR, road crews from Pospiech Contracting, Inc. were excavating to install a drainage line when the equipment caught a gas main line. Fire crews evacuated residents from the Colonade Park Apartments and secured a perimeter around the area to ensure safety.

Crew members made entry to the area under the direction of Florida Public Utilities and completed an emergency clamp of the two-inch line to contain the gas leak. Once the line was secured, the scene was turned over to Florida Public Utilities, to complete the repair, and residents returned to their homes. The leak was under control by 2:50 pm. No injuries were reported.
