Citrus Springs residents displaced by July 14 kitchen grease fire

Citrus County Fire Rescue 

Citrus County, Florida - Early Wednesday morning, July 14, at 12:10 pm, Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to a fire reported to a home on N. Citrus Springs Blvd. in Citrus Springs, Florida. Firefighters from Citrus Springs, DeRosa, Pine Ridge, and Hernando fire stations arrived on scene to find smoke showing from the front of the home. 

The occupants were alerted to the fire by smoke detectors and safely exited the home with their animals. The fire was contained to the kitchen, with no extension of the fire into other areas of the residence. One of the occupants told firefighters, that around 11:40 pm, she'd fried food and left a pot of grease on the stove. The home was ventilated of smoke, and once it was safe to enter, the occupants were allowed inside to gather their belongings. As they were displaced by the fire, the Red Cross was contacted to assist them with their needs.

The fire was deemed under control at 12:23 am, and the last unit cleared the scene at 1:37 am. No injuries were reported. Damages were estimated at approximately $30,000. The power company secured the power.
