Early morning fire in Inverness, FL leaves one dead

Inverness, Florida - A man was pronounced deceased at a local hospital after being found in a bedroom of a home located in the 6500 block of E. Amity St. in Inverness, where fire had broken out during the early morning hours of May 7. The man was transported to the hospital by Nature Coast EMS, but succumbed to his injuries.
According to Citrus County Fire Rescue, the fire was reported at 5:41 am, and the Engine 8 crew from the Highlands Fire Station arrived first on scene at 5:49 am. The communications center informed firefighters that the home was possibly occupied. When firefighters arrived on scene, deputies and bystanders were already at the home, attempting to extinguish the fire with a garden hose at the front window.
The 70 year-old man who perished in the fire was located in a bedroom. No further victims were located, and no other injuries were reported. The fire was called under control at 5:57 am, and crews cleared the scene at 12:13 pm. Mop up and ventilation was conducted, and the scene was turned over to the Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office to investigate.
Others who assisted with the fire included the Engine 2 crew from the City of Inverness Fire Station, Battalion Chief 1, the Engine 23 crew from the Kensington Fire Station, the Engine 5 crew from the Hernando Fire Station, Safety Captain 103, Chief 4, and the Rehab Unit from the Citrus Springs Fire Station.
Three elderly people died as the result of a fire that occurred at a Stowe St., Inverness residence, April 16, that is also being investigated by the Florida State Fire Marshal's Office.
