Four injured escaping houe fire in Crystal River

Citrus County Fire Rescue 

Citrus County, Florida - At 2:05 am on Wednesday, March 17, Citrus County Fire Rescue was dispatched to a fire at a residence on N. Quarterhorse Terrace in Crystal River. The caller advised there was a fire at the neighbor’s house and people were injured.        

Battalion Chief 2 and the Rescue 7 crew from Connell Heights Fire Station arrived first on scene at 2:15 am to find an approximately 1,300 square foot double wide manufactured home, approximately 80% involved with fire. Nature Coast EMS had multiple emergency units at the neighbor’s house, treating the injured residents, and firefighters verified that no one was left inside the burning residence. A defensive attack of the fire was initiated from the front and rear of the hone.                    

 A landing zone was established so that two pediatric trauma alert patients could be airlifted to a local trauma hospital. One adult male was transported by ambulance to a local hospital and later airlifted to a local trauma hospital, and one adult female was transported by ambulance to a local trauma hospital. 

The fire was called under control at 2:32 am, and crews cleared the scene at 5:43 am. A representative of the Florida State Fire Marshal’s office arrived on scene to investigate the cause and origin of the fire. 

Other pesonnel and fire stations that responded to the fire included Engine 20 from Pine Ridge, Engine 3 from Homosassa, Tanker 5 from Hernando, Engine 23 from Kensington, Safety Captain 102, and the Rehab Unit from Citrus Springs.
