When it comes to winter lawncare, too much water and long periods of moisture can promote pests and disease. Many residents turn the irrigation controller to the ‘OFF’ position and then turn ‘ON’ after two weeks of no rainfall. Keep the controller plugged in to maintain settings. If you have a Water Sense labeled irrigation controller, there is no need to adjust the schedule because the controller will automatically reduce irrigation each week while it is cool.
February: Only apply irrigation about once every 14 days through the end of February. If the lawn receives any significant rainfall, wait another 14 days.
March-November: One scheduled irrigation of 1/2” to 3/4” each week. That is about 30-45 minutes per rotor head zone and 15-20 minutes per spray head zone. Per ordinance, watering is limited to one day per week, either before 10 a.m. or after 4 p.m. (not both), as follows:

Fix a Leak Week
Because minor water leaks account for nearly 1 trillion gallons of water wasted each year in U.S. homes, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s WaterSense® program promotes Fix a Leak Week the third week of March annually. Fix a Leak Week is a reminder to Americans to check household plumbing fixtures and irrigation systems for leaks. Citrus County Utilities is promoting the following Fix a Leak Week events.
