In southwest Florida, 80% of the water is supplied by aquifers, which are underground layers of rock and sand that hold water. The local area is within the Southwest Florida Water Management District's North Region, which includes Citrus, Levy, Marion, Hernando, Sumter and Lake counties.

The North Region's aquifer level in percentiles, as of March 6, 2024, was 57%. The previous week was 55%, the same date last year was 48%, and the normal range is 25% to 75%.

The North Region's actual rainfall in inches for March 2024, as of March 6, 2024, was 1.28 inches. The March historic average is 3.77 inches, and the March normal range is 1.49 - 4.04 inches. The 2024 year-to-date actual rainfall is 7.95 inches, the March historic average is 9.46 inches, and the March normal range is 6.23 - 12.74 inches.

The North Region's average historic rainfall (in inches) since 2011 is 53.52 inches, within the normal range of 48.63 - 58.09 inches. The North Region's historic rainfall in inches for 2023 through 2011:

• Suwannee River Water Management District
Columbia, Dixie, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Lafayette, Madison, Suwannee, Taylor and Union counties, and portions of Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Jefferson, Levy and Putnam counties.

• St. Johns River Water Management District
Brevard, Clay, Duval, Flagler, Indian River, Nassau, Seminole, St. Johns and Volusia counties, as well as portions of Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Lake, Marion, Okeechobee, Orange, Osceola and Putnam counties.

• South Florida Water Management District
Broward, Collier, Dade, Glades, Hendry, Lee, Martin, Monroe, Palm Beach and St. Lucie counties, and portions of Charlotte, Highlands, Okeechobee, Orange, Osceola and Polk counties.
