Crystal River, Florida - On July 17, 2023, the Florida Department of Health in Citrus County (DOH-Citrus) removed  its "No Swim Advisory" and swimmers may now safely enjoy the water at Fort Island Gulf Beach. The swim ban was issued on July 12, due to high levela of enterococcus bacteria, commonly found in the intestinal tract of humans and animals, which is inidicative of pollution.

"No Swim Advisory" issued for Ft. Island Beach in Crystal River, FL

Crystal River, Florida - On July 12, 2023, the Florida Department of Health in Citrus County (DOH-Citrus) issued a "No Swim Advisory" for Fort Island Gulf Beach in Crystal River, Floridax via Twitter. 

Due to risk to the beach-going public, the beach is currently closed. DOH-Citrus will advise the public when the beach is reopened.

The agency conducts weekly water quality monitoring at Fort Island Gulf Beach through the Healthy Beaches Monitoring Program. 

The agency issued a similar warning for the beach in September 2022.
