The Florida State Parks Foundation's Plant a Pine program, in its third year, continues to do amazing things for our state parks, such as providing a crucial habitat for native Florida wildlife and helping to create diverse natural ecosystems. These trees used to occur in abundance, but as a result of modern development and commerce, they now make up only a small fraction of their original footprint. The Plant a Pine initiative was created to help restore native longleaf pines in Florida State Parks.

In January, 2023, two parks held tree-planting ceremonies - Ichetucknee Springs State Park in Fort White, Florida (see photo) and Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park in Micanopy, Florida. These tree plantings were made possible through donations, and the positive impact from the plantings will be felt for generations to come! With every seedling planted, you’re supporting an entire ecosystem.

The Florida State Parks Foundation is close to reaching its Plant a Pine target goal of planting 100,000 longleaf pines by Earth Day, April 22, 2023. Every $1 donation plants one longleaf pine seedling in a state park.
