In southwest Florida, 80% of the water is supplied by aquifers, which are underground layers of rock and sand that hold water. The local area is within the Southwest Florida Water Management District's North Region, which includes Citrus, Levy, Marion, Hernando, Sumter and Lake counties.
The North Region's aquifer level (in percentiles) for 2021, as of August 18, was 87% (the previous week was 87%, the same date last year was 46%, and the normal range is 25%–75%).
The North Region's actual rainfall (in inches) for 2021, as of August 18, was 10.02" (the August historic average is 8.04" and the August normal range is 6.55"-9.62"). The year-to-date actual rainfall is 44.16" (the January-August historic average is 39.84" and the January-August normal range is 35.37"-44.70").

The North Region's average historic rainfall in inches since 2011 is 53.45, within the normal range of 48.62-58.07. The North Region's historic rainfall in inches for 2020 through 2011: 47.77" in 2020, 57.02" in 2019; 66.66" in 2018, 52.41" in 2018, 48.49" in 2016, 52.04" in 2015, 61.12" in 2014, 50.54" in 2013, 55.81" in 2012, and 48.35" in 2011.

Southwest Florida Water Management District
In addition to the North Region (Citrus, Levy, Marion, Hernando, Sumter and Lake counties), the two other divisions of the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) includes the Central Region (Hillsborough, Pasco, Pinellas and Polk counties), and the South Region (Charlotte, DeSoto, Hardee, Highlands, Manatee and Sarasota counties).
The Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) is one of five water management districts within Florida. The other water districts include the Northwest Florida Water Management District, the Suwannee River Water Management District, the St. Johns River Water Management District, and the South Florida Water Management District.
Northwest Florida Water Management District:
Bay, Calhoun, Escambia, Franklin, Gadsden, Gulf, Holmes, Jackson, Leon, Liberty, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa, Wakulla, Walton, Washington, and western Jefferson counties.
Suwannee River Water Management District:
All of Columbia, Dixie, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Lafayette, Madison, Suwannee, Taylor, and Union counties, and portions of Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Jefferson, Levy, and Putnam counties.
St. Johns River Water Management District:
All of Brevard, Clay, Duval, Flagler, Indian River, Nassau, Putnam, Seminole, St. Johns and Volusia counties, and portions of Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Lake, Marion, Okeechobee, Orange and Osceola counties.
South Florida Water Management District:
All of Broward, Collier, Dade, Glades, Hendry, Lee, Martin, Monroe, Palm Beach and St. Lucie counties, and portions of Charlotte, Highlands, Okeechobee, Orange, Osceola and Polk counties.
