Clearwater, Florida - On Sunday afternoon August 9, two boaters were rescued from a 35-foot vessel, Last Lap, as it was taking on water, by the crew of a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium from U.S. Coast Guard Station Cortez, along with a crew from a Manatee County Sheriff's Office Marine Unit. The boaters were transferreed aboard the Coast Guard vessel, west of Bean Point at Anna Maria, Florida, near Bradenton, as the boast sank into the gulf. The boat crew safely transported the two passengers to Station Cortez, where family members awaited. The vessel owner arranged with commercial salvage services for salvage operations.
