Three Levy County boat ramps closed; no-wake speeds at some areas

Levy County Sheriff Bobby McCallum and members of the Levy County Board of County Commissioners announced the closure of boat ramps along the Suwannee River due to rising water. The following ramps in Levy County, Florida will be closed for launching vessels, until further notice, beginning August 11, 2021:  

Clay Landing
11850 NW 130th St., Chiefland, FL 

Camp Azalea (Lower Clay Landing)
4591 NW County Road 347, Chiefland, FL 

Fowlers Bluff
15253 NW 46th Lane, Chiefland, FL 


These public ramps will be closed until further notice. Boaters who are using the Suwanee River are asked to keep speeds to a minimum. Please slow to a no wake speed in the areas where houses are located on the river banks to help reduce erosion damage caused by boat wakes.

TWO IDLE-SPEED, NO WAKE ZONES ON SUWANNEE RIVER:

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has also activated two idle-speed, no-wake zones on the Suwannee River at he following loctions:

Zone 3 - which runs from Little River Spring to the County Road 340 Bridge at Rock Bluff. This 23-mile segment becomes an idle-speed, no-wake zone when the Suwannee River reaches 23.25 feet at the Branford gauge. On Aug. 10, the gauge was at 23.45 feet.

Zone 4  - which runs from the centerline of the County Road 340 Bridge at Rock Bluff to approximately 300 feet southwest of New Clay Landing Boat Ramp, from approximately 6,000 feet north of Camp Azalea Boat Ramp to approximately 1,300 feet south of Yellow Jacket Landing, and from approximately 2,000 feet northeast of Fowler’s Bluff Boat Ramp to approximately 1 mile southwest of Fowler’s Bluff Boat Ramp when the river level is 8.35 feet or higher on the Wilcox gauge. On Aug. 10, the gauge was at 8.90 feet.
