Levy County, Florida - A 20 year-old female pedestrian was seriously injured when she was struck by a vehicle on Sunday afternoon, December 10, 2023 at 2:15 pm. 

The crash occurred on U.S. Highway 19, 100 feet south of SE Shirley Road, 11.8 miles north of the U.S. Highway 19/Levy County Road 40 intersection in Inglis, Florida.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox sport utiity vehicle (SUV) was travelling south on U.S. Highway 19. For reasons to be determined, the pedestrian was standing in the outside, southbound lane of U.S. Highway 19, and was struck by the front right of the SUV. After the impact, the pedestrian came to rest on the west grass shoulder, and the vehicle came to a controlled stop in the center median. 

The pedestrian was transported to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Floida with serious injuries.

No one in the SUV was injured during the collision. The occupants of the SUV included the 36 year-old female driver and her two  passengers, a 56 year-old woman and a 12 year-old boy, all from Tampa, Florida. All three were wearing a seatbelt, according to the FHP press release.

The press release also stated that the pedestrian's location of residence was not known at the time of the press release.
