Crystal River, Florida - At 4:03 pm on Friday afternoon, June 9, 2023, Citrus County Fire Rescue personnel responded to a call for service, reporting that a juvenile was hanging from a cliff at Rock Crusher Canyon in Crystal River.

Within four minutes, a captain from the Fire Training Center in Lecanto, Florida was first to arrive on scene, followed, shortly thereafter, by a Battalion Chief who established command. The juvenile was found, hanging onto a small tree, approximately 40 feet from the ground.

Crews began rescue efforts with a plan for crew members to propel from the top of the cliff with their rope rescue gear. A ladder unit began support from the ground, reached the juvenile, and safely brought the juvenile to the ground and the care of his/her family.

“Due to quick and strategic actions of our highly trained personnel, the unharmed juvenile was returned to his family,” said Fire Chief Craig Stevens.

Firefighters from the Connell Heights, Homosassa, Kensington, Hernando, and Lecanto fire stations responded to the scene.
